I love love love vegetables, and of course you can eat as much as you want because they are so nutritious. But, are all vegetables created equal? Let's dive right in....

To be transparent, everything I've been doing without the consult of a dermatologist has been trial and error. Especially with this pandemic going on, I've been experimenting on everything natural (not highly recommended, that's a personal choice).

Diets have been major on my list, because as we all know our bodies react to the food we eat. While researching, I stumbled on night shade vegetables.

What Are Night Shade Vegetables?

These vegetables are actually grown in shaded areas and are thought to cause inflammation which is one issue that many of us with autoimmune disorders experience. For those people who have rheumatoid arthritis, if you have an intolerance for these vegetables, it can cause severe joint pain. Night shade vegetables contain solanine which some people believe causes the inflammation.

Examples of Night Shade Vegetables:

  • White Potatoes

  • Tomatoes

  • Bell Peppers

  • Eggplant

  • Cayenne

  • Paprika

Recommended Replacements:

  • Sweet Potatoes

  • Butternut Squash

  • Yams

  • Mushrooms

  • Cauliflower

  • Carrots

  • Black Pepper

  • Turmeric

  • Ginger

Wheww chileeee, so one thing that you will learn about me is I LOVE potatoes. Baked potato, french fries, home fries, scattered, smothered and covered...AND ain't nothing like some sauteed peppers. However, sometimes we have to sacrifice a little (or a lot) for our health. It's interesting to find out that foods that are so nutritious have the potential to heighten underlying illnesses.

Even though the inflammation in my scalp has gone down a lot, I frequently get little bumps that make my whole head hurt. I'll probably try it out after I get through my leftover spaghetti (*eye roll* tomatoes). Give me some feedback if you've tried eliminating these vegetables or let me know what you think in general.

Curiously & Optimistically,

Gia
