Have you ever wondered why you were placed on this Earth? That was me praying about my purpose for years, until it hit me like a bag of potatoes! I didn't understand it at first, but now I know my purpose is to show the miracles and wonders of what God has placed on this Earth. Part of his miracles and wonders are all the natural goodness that he's created to help us thrive on this planet. However, are we really taking advantage of it? *Throws my church finger up to excuse myself*

Ok but seriously, as I've gone through this journey, I've realized that nature is healing. There are so many plants and herbs created to help us internally and externally. This hair and scalp journey has been a whirlwind, but seeing the growth has been worth it. I've already given you my college thesis *wheww it was a long one* on what I put on the inside of my body, but now let's take a look on what goes on the outside.

Let's recap a little on my growth real quick. It just gives me chills :)

Outer Healing:

Natural Products for Hair

ree

There are so many natural hair care lines out there, but a lot of the products have ingredients with long words that nobody knows. A matter of fact, if it has 50 letters like Methylisothiazolinone, throw that shit back on the shelf. Now, I'm not saying that the products with the big words aren't good. I'm saying to try increasing more of the natural items. It's kind of like eating a salad with fried chicken. The chicken is bad, but at least the salad balances it out a little. *shrugs*

Personally, I use a lot of carrier and essential oils like coconut oil, shea butter, rosemary, and peppermint. I wash my hair with either black soap or a natural based soaps like Tate's The Miracle Shampoo & Conditioner. Also, there are a few ladies on YouTube that I follow including Naptural85, Bella Mecia, and GEM Naturals who also have recipes using avocados, bananas and even sweet potatoes. Let me break down a few benefits of some of the products that I use.

Carrier Oils

Carrier oils are made from seed and nuts of plants, and are used to dilute essential oils. They have many benefits for the hair and skin in general. There are so many carrier oils like Olive Oil, Moringa Oil and Grapeseed Oil which are all great. Here are a few carrier oils that I use on my hair and scalp.

Coconut Oil:

  • Great pre-poo for dry hair

  • Gives hair a shine

  • Conditions Scalp

  • Stimulates hair growth

  • Anti-inflammatory

Essential Oils

Essential oils are highly concentrated and have to be diluted with a carrier oil to not irritate your skin. There smells are extracted from plants, which gives an aromatherapy feel. They are not only good for a nice massage or relaxation, but of course hair! Common essential oils are lavender, sage, eucalyptus and tea tree. I have very sensitive skin, so the essential oils that've been effective and not irritate my scalp are rosemary and peppermint oil.

Plants!!!!

Listen, I don't just eat plants, I use them on my scalp too. Through out history, people have used food on their hair for restoration, growth and conditioning. Like I stated in the beginning, a lot of people use a variety of plants such as bananas and aloe vera. Personally, I love love love avocados! Avocados are known as a super food. The benefits are endless!!! I try to experiment on new ingredients, but avocados never fail me.

Avocados:

  • Awesome to use as a pre-poo mask or deep conditioner

Bring It All Together

All of the ingredients that I use on my hair is like a family. When you mix all of this beautiful goodness together, it creates something special. It is not the end all be all. *repeats with megaphone* I can only tell you what works for me and is proven through research. Look into carrier oils, essential oils and plants with natural ingredients that best fit your hair needs. If you have any recipes for hair growth, thickness or conditioning please comment below!! You don't have to be diagnosed with Alopecia to benefit from healthy hair and growth. I would love to hear from you and get ideas on how to move forward in this journey. Until next time, LIVE UN·SCARRED.

Freely & Blissfully,

Gia
