Did you know that Lichen Planopilaris results in permanent hair loss? It is a type of scarring alopecia that once the hair is gone, the scalp scars over, and the hair follicles will not come back. Can you imagine having a head full of thick, natural hair to be taken away forever??? BUT GOD...I'll say that again..BUT GOD..has the final say so!! I am a testament that holistic healing is slow, but shows results. Even though it's not a lot, I grew a lot more hair than anyone, including myself expected. If you're interested in what I did for inner healing to promote hair growth, and a healthy body keep reading this post.

Holistic Healing Overview:

A lot of times we go to the doctor, hoping for instant relief. Most of the time, they can provide it, but it comes with a cost. We are taking countless medication to treat just the symptoms of our illnesses, but in reality they never go away. In my holistic healing journey, my functional medicine doctor has been treating me on the inside first, which helps the outside. Most of us who have auto immune disorders have issues with our gut.

Our gut is like the powerhouse of our bodies. I like to call it my HBIC (Head B**** In Charge). In real life, when the HBIC is good, everybody is good! Just like my gut, when she is straight, then everything else can do its job. This weeks post will focus mainly on inner healing and I will follow up later with outer healing. Here are some things that was recommended to me in my journey, that seemed to be effective.

Inner Healing

Supplements

Many of us take supplements when we are lacking something that our body needs. When I went to the functional medicine doctor, I found out my stress levels were high, inflammation was high, and my Omega 3's and Vitamin E levels were low. In just a few months of taking these supplements, my numbers were cut in half. Here are the supplements that I took and a few benefits about each of them:

ree

GI Resolve: (Past Medication)

  • Creates a barrier in your intestines from harmful toxins

  • Allows the body to absorb nutrients better

  • Reduces Inflammation

  • Builds your immune system

  • Strongly suggested with people that have Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

Digestzymes: (Currently Using)

  • Helps digest food properly (especially the good nutrients)

  • Prevents excessive gas and bloating

  • Very beneficial especially if you're having digestive issues. If you're not digesting your food properly, you can't get them optimum amount of nutrients that your body needs to stay healthy.

Ortho-Biotic Powder: (Past Medication)

  • Promotes a healthy gut (The HBIC)

  • Used as a probiotic

  • Recommended if you've used an excess amount of antibiotics, birth control or anything that can set off your gut flora.

  • Professional Suggestion: Mix a scoop of this powder with the GI Resolve everyday in water or some type of drink.

ree

ProOmega CRP: (Currently Using)

  • Promotes cellular recovery (Most people with auto immune disorder's cells are under attack)

  • Builds the immune system

  • Filled with Omega 3's that aid in heart health, inflammation, protects the skin, along with many other benefits

Annatto-E: (Currently Using)

  • Serves as Vitamin E

  • Protects against cellular damage

  • Helps with chronic inflammation

  • Good for healthy skin and eyes

ree

Inflammacore: (Currently Using)

  • Aids in chronic inflammation

  • Builds the immune system

  • Aids in normal tissue repair in the body

  • Helps restores the GI

Change of Diet

Now ya'll know that I was going to talk about eating healthy! As much as a girl loves hot wings, cheese, and the wheat biscuits at Thumbs Up Diner, I had to change a lot of things in order to heal. My doctor put me on a gut restoration diet that included the following:

  • no gluten

  • no dairy

  • no added sugars

  • wild caught seafood

  • free ranged meat

  • fresh fruits and vegetables

  • mostly good carbs (sweet potatoes, bananas, etc.)

  • processed foods to the very minimum

When I say whewww chile! My first trip to Whole Foods had me looking like....

However, food is healing, but it can also destroy us as well. Taking care of our bodies, alleviates so many health issues. It's so simple, but hard for many of us to do. My advice is to take baby steps. I really didn't have the option to move slowly, because I was tired of pain ruling my world. Start adding fruits and vegetables to every meal. If you're eating something processed, add something unprocessed. Don't eat meat for every meal (that's another post, for another day). Also, Kroger and Wal-Mart offers some of the same nutritious foods as Whole Foods, but more cost effective. Buy more food from the outer aisles (like produce) than the inner (processed food). You'll feel better, look better, and won't look back.

Not necessarily the tastiest, but your body will thank you:)

Eliminating Stress

Stress will kill you! *repeats in my loud speaker* I know that a strong statement, but it will make you sick. Part of the reason why my condition worsened, was stress. Remember..I was battling with a sickness that wasn't diagnosed until the end of the year, I lost my car, my grandma died, and I was dealing with issues in my relationship. As the stress grew, the inflammation grew to the point where I couldn't lay my head down at night. Part of healing is trying your best to live a stress free life. Exercising isn't my favorite thing to do, however it does help relieve stress. Pray, meditate, read a book, go for a walk, dance, or whatever it is that you do to help calm your nerves. Check out my #wellnesswednesdays everyday this month on IG (@gigirashawn) or Facebook (@unscarrednaturally) for natural ways to eliminate stress. Your life is more important than all the stressors in this world.

Bring it back, Bring it back!!

I know that was a lot, especially for the people who need this advice. It was overwhelming for me initially, but I don't regret the process. You should not be taking 20 pills a day for the rest of your life *repeats with a bull horn* Taking natural supplements, eating healthy and exercise *eye roll* are the most important for your health. I never realized HOW important, until I experienced it myself. Please consult a medical professional before trying any of these supplements. You will need a full diagnostic and some understanding of what your body is deficient in. You don't need a doctor to tell you to eat healthy though, so get to it!

If you have any questions or comments, feel free to hit me up. Stay tuned for Hair Growth Part II which focuses on outer healing. Continue to LIVE UN·SCARRED :)

Confidently & Enthusiastically,

Gia
